Agatha Christie's Method
Gladly Knox wrote the 10 commandments of detective fiction in the 1920s and those rules include things that we take for granted now. Christie played so very explicitly with those rules and really you could give her any rule not just Knox's 10 and she would see what she could do to subvert it. She was always playing down her skills what she did was worked very quietly but she would say things like you know I'm just a sausage machine, James says. The real work is done in thinking out the development of your story and worrying about it until it comes right said Agatha Christie.
