The Torn Type Test and the Future of AI

The tearing test is never going to be able to tell us if a system is sentient or not. It will only tell us how well it could mimic sentience. We can't really know unless we know something about its internal state. And this is why I think it's so important to understand as much as possible how analogous it really is to a mammalian brain or a human brain.
