The Three Ecological Processes of Rewilding
When you're rewilding what you need to be doing is restoring three ecological processes, these are called trophic complexity, stochastic disturbance, and dispersal. For a functional ecosystem to work, it has to have all those levels intact. A lot of keystone species, a lot of apex predators are locally extinct. So that means we're missing the top of that food pyramid. We're also missing a lot of just other large animals like bison within Britain and Europe.
