The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty was created by French artist August Bartoldi in 1871. It is supposed to be the personification of the Roman goddess, Libertas. In America, there was also a tradition of a patriotic figure called Columbia as in Columbia University and District of Columbia. The name stood for peace and wisdom and plenty and justice.
