How to Maintain a Good Defense Against a Grip Fight
The real frame is your posture. R like you said, if your hips aren't up, if if your back's not straight off the ground a your leg is essentially useless and can't support any weight. It really does come down to posture as equally important, if not more important, when it comes to maintaining these frames. And especially when you got to make space, get up into basein and get the hell out of there. I like the drill that you mention too, where you're basically giving up the grip fighting aspect of the game,. So you're already handicapping yourself.
