Economists are evenly split on whether the economy is strong enough to withstand a recession. To bring inflation down, more people losing their jobs means fewer employers trying to hire lots of people. Right now, as it stands, they're still roughly two open jobs for every unemployed person in america. That's putting a lot of upward pressure on wages, which ultimately leads to upward pressure on inflation.
