Truth and the pursuit of truth doesn't have to be tied to ritual traditions that bring us towards life. The Romans had something called the Roman interpretation or the Greek interpretation, which was essentially like what we would call comparative mythology. It was able to integrate a broad amount of different religious beliefs with no real care for what people claimed to be true as long as their traditions were followed.
