Weblin's Observations of the Depression - The Problem of Absentee Ownership

Weblin argued that capitalists must maintain prices at such a level that they can meet their returns. Absentee owners, who had no actual involvement in the production process whatever, simply carried out sabotage on an enormous scale to secure their own returns. The real problem was that a corps of absentee owners had the ability to shut down the factories in the first place by simple virtue of their ownership. And this was true even in times that weren't marked by massive depressions.
