The Role of Open Source in AI Regulation
More than half of all academic papers studying machine learning, aka the process that pushes AI toward higher capabilities, have relied on open source software. We need approaches to understanding when an AI system is being used so that people understand what they're interacting with. In this country, we do not have a federal comprehensive data privacy law, which is extraordinary and leaves us open to enormous vulnerabilities. The EU could act as a model for lots of other governments who are also trying to figure this out right now.
