Druid Data Modeling - Is Time a Special Dimension?

Right now time is a very special dimension in Druid. As you imagine like most O-Lab work, time is just one of the dimensions. It's not more special than any other dimension. I think for a while time will always be really special to Druid and will make a lot of decisions based on this time field. Makes sense to me that something that's calling itself real time that promises to have special behaviors around time will ultimately be forced to treat time in that way.
