The Probability of Being All Alone in the Milky Way

Bhatnagar: The problem appears when you are multiplying many different things that you are uncertain about together. With the 300 billion stars in the milky way, we should expect 300 civilizations. And the probability seems to be very much against us being all alone. But there is a surprising amount of thinking that is strongly predicated on his point estimates. He says it could turn out that some of his uncertain permit extra have fairly low values.
