Funeral Games and Grief

This chapter describes the funeral games held to honor Patroclus, as well as Achilles' ongoing grief over his friend's death. Apollo intervenes to convince the gods to return Hector's remains to Troy, leading Zeus to devise a plan for Achilles to accept a ransom. Additionally, a humiliated speaker gives a heartfelt speech to request the release of his son, breaking Achilles' heart and ending his wrath.
