You know, there's that great book by Julian James, the origins of consciousness in the breakdown of the bicameral mind. His thesis was that consciousness such as you and I experience it. Like right now you and I are conscious that we are on a podcast talking to each other. But if I'm walking down the street and I have a bag in my hand, I'm not conscious of the bag. And yet at no point do I ever let the bag go. It's almost like your subconscious is processing the environment and giving you the right that you're not even aware of because your rational brain hasn't kicked in yet.
