The Importance of the Law in Technology
People are building AI systems right now, consistent with what they think the law lets them do and doesn't let them do. That is actually how, that is actually how we organize our world. It's not this nonsense of, oh, the government comes in and regulates afterwards. We've all been taught that technology is a thing that happens, and then the government comes into and regulates it. What actually happens is people are building stuff, and they build stuff consistent with the legal regime of the time. And so at the moment when the technology gets introduced, it's really important what the laws are.
