Aristotle's Methods of Developing Animals
Aristotle established a series of methods of doing things. Often he'll start by observing one particular animal, but then he'll infer that this same will apply to other animals as well. One of a good example of this is when he takes apart hen eggs. He sees the development of the embryo chick. This is in the Historia Animalium. So I can find out generally what's going on here and I can apply it to all birds. It's just that some birds just date more quickly, so this process will be quicker and some longer than others.
