Ruthie hopes latis was one of those people being paid to listen. Several years ago, she saw an ad from a temp agency seeking someone with an english or journalism degree. They offered 12 dollars an hour transcribe audio recordings. She passed a security check and a grammar test, and then she was let in. On her task, she would listen to conversations picked up by the echoes microphones and type them up and then feed the information back into amazon system.
