The Mycenaean Period

The Mycenaean era fits into a period known as the Late Hellatic Period, roughly 1600 to 1100 BC. It doesn't seem likely that a large invasion took place but supplanted a new civilization. Waves of people and ideas filtering down from the Balkans would gradually take hold in areas and eventually come into conflict with others. There are signs at the level of progression seen at the beginning of the Bronze Age stagnated for some centuries before around the Middle Bronze Age where prosperity returned. Most of the information has been gathered through four main areas: legends, archaeology, archives such as Linear B on Greek mainland, and foreign archives which talk of interactions between two civilizations.
