The Benefits of Dream Analysis

I asked Megan how she got started with dreamwork. Megan explained she was called to do this work and realized this was her innate gift to share with the world. She had been diagnosed with several chronic illnesses at the same time and this opened the door to greater perception for her.

Dreams are the doorway to enlightenment, awakening and magic. Megan says there is an opportunity for personal transformation by accessing our dreams.

Dreams are curated from your consciousness and offer a way to tap into universal source knowledge that is hidden in your waking life and the illusion of your reality. Dreams are stories that provide guidance from your higher self, the universe, ancestors, and even spirit guides.

Megan takes a more mystical and ethereal approach to interpreting dreams vs. the dogmatic descriptions from the scientific arena. And she suggests you breakup with your dream book because those meanings may not be accurate for you.

Your Dream Message

My guest believes it’s possible to have visitation dreams and get a dream message. They appear as thoughts but in the middle world, the time in between waking and sleeping, they take on a different quality. When you are between beta (waking world) and theta (meditation and dreaming) waves, in that space you can get deeper information easily.

Recurring dreams let you know that you have not caught on to the message. That’s why the theme repeats in the hopes of getting your attention. it’s like something is bubbling up from the subconscious mind.

Dream Mirror Method

Working with dreams, Megan has developed a simple four-part method to interpret them. She calls this the Dream Mirror Method.

1. Memory – Write down the dream in as much detail as possible. Even little things can add up. Give your dream a title that sums up what it was about. This gives you a bigger picture or the thousand-foot view.

2. Mood – Capture the mood of the dream, both while in it and upon waking. Think about how you were feeling in the dream – what were the emotions? This reveals a lot of information for your dream message.

3. Mirror – Look at the different things happening in the dream like the people, places and actions, the colors, the numbers, and the elements. If there is a person, describe them with three adjectives to give it more depth.

Megan also looks at the elements, like water, which can represent emotions. Think about what the landscape looks like and the buildings. What was the interaction like with the people?

4. Metaphor – Combine everything together to see how that story can be a metaphor for what’s happening now in your life. This helps you reflect your subconscious into your conscious mind.

Redo Your Dreams

One empowering step you can take after a bad dream is to imagine an alternative ending. This allows you to see possibilities for that story and how it can turn out differently, opening up more options.

Another dreamwork method is called dream manifestation or incubation. Before you go to bed, think about a dream you’ve had. Then write your intention for how the dream will be different this time when you re-enter it in your sleep.

Doing this puts your subconscious mind to work on the metaphor presented and allows it to come up with a new solution!

Why Are Dreams Hard to Remember?

You may think you’ll remember your dream, but it will likely be gone quickly- they are fleeting! In just 5-minutes you will forget 50% of the dream content and soon after all of it will disappear. This is because you are shifting brainwaves once you’re awake and get into your day.

So, reflecting on your dreams and writing them down just as you wake up is the best practice to start remembering and working with them.

Let’s Talk about Nightmares

Nightmares seem so profound because of their intense emotional content. The emotional part of your brain is as active in dreams as in your waking life. We experience the dream on the mind level as if they really happened.

Nightmares are a deep opportunity to tap into your shadow self, when using tools to decode the stories and what they are portraying in a metaphorical way. This helps you understand the challenges, fears, limiting beliefs, and blocks.

In a way, you get the chance to better understand yourself more deeply. This is why dreamwork is the ultimate self-care activity. Looking within to understand yourself can free up your energy, resolving issues so you can move on. Plenty of healing opportunities in there.

A Powerful Recall Method

Thinking backwards is what Megan calls the process of thinking about your dreams and recalling the details. This is similar to the action of retracing your steps in your mind to remember why you walked into a room (if you’ve forgotten LOL).

You can do this same thing with dreams! It takes patience and consistency to remember your dream message but the more you do it, the better you get at it.

Start at the bottom of the page in your journal and write the first thing you get which is likely the last thing that happened in the dream. Then keep walking back in your memory to get more details till you get to the top of the page. Great idea – that makes a lot of sense!

Integrate Dreamwork into Other Healing Practices

Whether you are a Reiki healer, a therapist, a Shaman, or other light worker, adding dream interpretation to your type of healing can be huge for your clients. It compliments any healing modality.

Megan wants to encourage practitioners to consider learning about dream interpretation and start to work with them as well in their practice.

Most of all, Megan wants you to appreciate your dreams and the dream message vs. disregarding them. They have tremendous transformative power when you open up to working with them
