The Three Year Gaps in Joseph Smith's Translation
Joseph Smith's child was supposed to translate the plates first. And then the story was more and still born or whatever. The idea is if you put the translation in the act of a child, then it looks that much more marvelous. But those were rewritten back into the story to give it some kind of reason that there's these three year gaps.
