The Importance of Formal Teaching

I've watched the baby chimp observing the mother and what struck me about it was that the mother apparently was making no attempt overtly to teach the child, just letting the kid watch. And that seems to be a difference between them and us. I mean, we, we make a conscious effort to teach. We have this kind of formal teaching that other apes don't have. But one of my absolute favorite things is this, this text that's from 5000 years ago in Mesopotamia, and it's called school days.
