The point of liberalism is to get rid of personalist leadership. The populist want kings and they hate kings from the other side, right? They do all of this sort of, I hate the deep state. I hate picking winners and losers. But they got no problem with the exact same phenomena on their own side. That's what the way Putin runs Russia. And that's why the laws are passed to ratify and legitimize his personal wins.
