Is There Such a Thing as Probability Given the Evidence?
There's a doctrine in philosophy and science called falliblism. No matter how much good evidence you have for your theory, it's always possible that you're wrong. But there is also such a thing as likelihood given the evidence. Just because a scientist can't prove something doesn't mean our alternative hypothesis is just as good. Most scientific hypotheses, in the long run, end up being false. It's this double standard that really bothers me - i call it cateteria skepticism.
