What About the Religious Background of Your Childhood?
I grew up in a caring, respectful, loving, essentially secular household. We went to church at Christmas and at Easter, but I became a religious child. That now seems to me to be a seriously wrong turn. And the disjuncture between that type of Christianity and the love which I felt suffused the natural world was a disjuncture which it took me many years to escape from or recognize indeed.
