The Trend in Bodily Autonomy
The Nuremberg Code was developed subsequent to the Second World War. It said that prior voluntary informed consent is required for participation in any kind of medical experimentation. And then it went further with the Helsinki Declaration in the 1960s and then in 2006, the UNESCO Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights. The United States has never signed any of them interestingly, but we all embrace them.
