Gut Training for Ultra Distance Training

There are two approaches to gut training. One is the sledgehammer approach where you start at your current level of tolerance and then slowly ratchets that up. The other could be about training the grams per hour of carbohydrates we saw in ash's case. In terms of how often you need to do gut training probably at least once if not twice a week If you do it more frequently than that it may speed up the process of adaptation. However there's not a lot of research that compares whether one or two sessions over a longer period of time gets better than five days a week for ultra distance events.
