The History of the Summer Solstice
Christianity has a long history of transforming pagan sites. The festivities of the summer solstice were appropriated to the feast of St John the Baptist. A figure known as the Shining One was said to walk the avenue of stones on mid-summer, although you can't help but wonder if this was just another name for the sun.
