The Early Church Practiced Fasting

In Old Testament and Judaism, people would fast as morning for the dead. Moses fasted before receiving 10 commandments. Daniel fasted while receiving or before receiving his visions. The only fasting that was commanded was on the day of atonement. In fact quite future is still practiced fasting before partaking communion.
