The Karens Before the Karens
Anne Charity Hudley is a professor of linguistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The Karen has been with us for a long time, even if she only recently got her name. In 1992, Sir Mixalot's hit, Baby Got Back, an ode to plump posteriors, the name Becky became shorthand for a white girl lurking around black people and culture.
