If Christianity Had Developed Further West Would It Have Developed in Quite the Same Way?
Christians found that they wanted to defend christianity by taking on the language of philosophy and attacking philosophers in their own terms. i think if philosophers had actually been a bit cooler and not attacked christianity that that might not have happened but there is another factor at play which is that as christianity spread through the second century some people were trying to make an accommodation between greek philosophy and christianity. The mystics kind of pushed back quite a bit right like to kind of say you're trying to order this all in this way that you just can't do, he says.
