In much of the western world, asians are widely seen as a step removed from robots. These racist ideas make it easy to imagine that all members of the chinese diaspera are potential tools of the Chinese state. I definitely agree that anti asian raceism is key to shaping american attitudes towards china, and thus us. Policy towards china. But to what extent is it remaking American raceism? The anti asian racism accompanying the conflict with china doesn't seem comparable to the islam phobia and anti arab racism that accompanied the war on terr at least not yet.
