When Dave was 15 he got his 16 year old girlfriend Susan pregnant. The two were very much in love and wanted to get married, but both children's parents were horrified at the idea. Each set of parents told their child that the other had dumped them and never wanted to see them again. Both believed what they were told, and Dave didn't see his daughter for 30 years. You can find echoes of this throughout Dave's songwriting in the 60s. Quayf also dropped out of Art School relatively soon after enrolling. He wasn't comfortable mixing with Bohemian middle class people. Ray, on the other hand, was in his element.
