The Free Black People of the United States
The District of Columbia was originally laid out in the shape of a 10-mile square diamond. The Cornerstone itself is laid at the southernmost boundary known as Jones Point. Prince Hall was one of these free black men who would later be the founder of the first black Masonic lodge. Some historians believe that Prince Hall was born in Barbados in 1735.
