The News Avoidance Phenomenon
In the United States, 38% of respondents said they sometimes or often avoid the news. The proportion of people who say they are extremely or very interested in the news continued to shrink in the U.S. Since about 2005, when the revenue for the newspaper industry peaked at around $60 billion, newspapers not surprisingly have lost more than half of this.
