Writing a Novel - What's the Moment When You Stopped Pre-Planning Who Your Characters Were?

At one point of your first novel, you were writing these notes about your characters. But now you're on your third novel, what was the moment when you stopped pre planning who your characters were as thoroughly as you are now? I think probably for my second novel, i did make notes, but they, there were more characters, actually, in my second novel,. So so the notes were just ao of an aid memoir, eh, to me. Quite like to write first thing in the morning. And having said that, i sit at my dining table, sometimes, ie, just start writing in bed with my first mug of tea and then have another few hours after lunch.
