Fasting as a Foretaste of Home

Many commentators note that when it says many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus it reveals Jesus to be the host. One commentator added this meal was an extension of the grace of God and anticipation of the consummation when Messiah will sit down with sinners in the kingdom of God. This amazing picture of the one who came to serve by giving his life as a ransom for many is the one here who is sitting and feasting with sinners. And the one the one who will one day finally host a feast in our forever home the new heavens and the new earth.
