Neil Papworth was a 22-year-old software engineer working for Senga Group in the UK when he sent the first text message. The early phones were much more sturdy than the phones of today because you had a smaller display and bigger devices, there were lots of plastic around the components. "You can see that with some of the phones that we have in the mobile phone museum, which have had lots of knocks and bumps but they're still in pretty good shape"
