The Transformation of Ravenna During the Reign of Honorius
As Rome is sacked Ravenna remains unscathed where the Emperor Honorius is how does Ravenna transform during the reign of Honorius in those first decades of the fifth century? Well one of the first things we know is that his older brother Arcadia sent him four or five thousand troops to assist in the defense of the west. There must have been capacity for garrisoning a large number of extra soldiers who arrived by sea they were then part of the permanent imperial force attached to Ravenna.
