There are hedonic treadmill effects, you might think our happiness level has a heavily genetic component in any case. What evidence do you have that people today are happier than they were during hunter-gatherers times when there was little to no technology? If we lost all this technology tomorrow in six months or a year rich, we'd probably report being just as happy as we are today,. I think that the clearest and most concrete examples I can give are from medicine. And I think that those ought to be uncontroversial.
