The Last Television Play
The last television play is a bit of melancholy on Dennis' part because he knows that things are not going that way. There was a moment when I think he felt a little bit isolated and not really going forward. But very quickly he got numerous commissions out of Hollywood, not much. It was made of his own work. And it begins amusingly enough with a mock eulogy in which Dennis Potter, the successful Hollywood screenwriter, chokes on a piece of rolled up smoke salmon on Concord. The vicar who gives the eulogy at Potter's funeral says not quite the kind of mid-Atlantic demise that maybe some of his worried friends were concerned about but need enough to satisfy
