The Great Ascension of Latin in the Golden Age
Latin took over as the language of learning from arabic. And so it became rather hit what got translated and what didn't get translated. You feel that there was a great loss and even a belittling of what the islamic mathematicians had done? They had discovered a lot of these things which the europeans built on, but didn't acknowledge, or they'd got lost in translation. I don't think there's anything particularly insidious.
