The Obsession of Rachmananoff
Rachmananoff uses an instrument that he had never used before in his orchestral music. The alto saxophone adds a kind of distance to the music, as if it's a very beautiful intruder. It could be the song of someone who doesn't feel quite at home in a foreign land. Notice just how violent this music is and also how uncompromising it is.
