Is There a Role for Conservation Biology in the Conservation Movement?
I think conservation biology is becoming more effective at looking to conserve biodiversity and ecosystem function. We clearly still have lots of room for improvement in terms of increasing the effectiveness of us doing it, but I think we're moving in the right direction. But how do we know what wild is? Is this just looking back in history to see what used to be there, or are we using other kinds of scientific tools to understand what a functioning ecosystem looks like? Again, for me as an ecologist, what is wild? Wild is wildlife or what is nature? Nature is the biotic element of our environment, but it's them being out in the environment.
