The ability to imagine the future and think about it is an important part of being a moral subject. Johann Livgren says, sometimes people describe effective field theory as a framework for reductionism. A reductionist just wants to say that there is a more comprehensive theory than thinking of water as a liquid solid gas with certain points of phase transitions.
