I Love Cockatoos, but I Love the Sad Book
Quentin has been an influence for me. My work was terribly influenced and a very bad sort of version of Quentin. But I managed to get that out of my system, but what remains is the structure of it. So I learned about the design of the page, how to change the scale, how to use emotion and animation. And I really learnt that from looking at his work. He's done such wonderful French classics and fables and sort of more slightly more serious than the joyful picture books. You feel like he's sort of sitting with the child because what Michael's talking about is incredibly moving.
