The Mythic Space

Sun Ra's whole stick from the late 50s was to have this sort of pseudo pharonic pseudo Egyptian costumes and imagery. It was a way of reasserting the centrality of African experience to world history, adopting this imagery in a very self-consciously mythical way. Le Chlo and Muf stress that any conception or society as a complete whole, as a totality, is just that it is a fantasy. And so Sun Ra is really a great example of mythic thinking and mythic practice,.
