The Importance of Pain in Training

Athletes feel pain just like everyone else, but they're willing to tolerate much, much higher levels. If you're a beginner, regardless of how fast you are, you probably haven't learned to hold your finger in the flame quite as hard. And so what this tells me is it's not that you learn to suffer once and then you never have to think about it again. It's that it's a constant, constant process of preparing yourself to suffer and dealing with higher and higher levels of discomfort.
