Unshaken Saints

CHAPTER

The Rise and Fall of Jesus

Mark's account of this is in chapter 15 verse 40, that we're also women looking on afar off. There are a multitude of sister saints with the courage to come unto Christ than when it means coming to the cross. Back to Matthew, chapter 27 verse 45, there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. Think about the signs of his birth and his death among the Nephites. Birth, light when there should have been darkness. Death, darkness when there should be light.

Mark's account of this is in chapter 15 verse 40, that we're also women looking on afar off, among whom was, and here's his list, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, the lesson of Joseph, and Solomon, who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him and ministered unto him, and many other women, which came up with him unto Jerusalem. Now, that's the same list as Matthew's, but instead of mentioning the mother of Zebedee's children, it mentions Salome, which many have suggested, well, maybe that is the same person. And so perhaps the mother of James and John was named Salome. Either way, there are a multitude of sister saints with the courage to come unto Christ, than when it means coming to the cross. Remember that, especially next week. Back to Matthew, chapter 27 verse 45, now from the sixth hour, there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. Now Luke will say the same thing, that there's darkness across the land, but the word that Luke uses literally means to leave off, to cease, to die out, to abandon. This version, it's as if the sun was just shutting down for good, so picture this from the sixth hour, high noon, when you'd expect the most light, all the way up to 3 p.m., hottest hours of the day, and yet the sun itself refuses to shine, so fitting. The light of the world is being extinguished. Think about the signs of his birth and his death among the Nephites. Birth, light when there should have been darkness. Death, darkness when there should have been light, and it's happening there among the Jews in Jerusalem as well. Now about the ninth hour, so this has been going on for three agonizing hours, Jesus cried with a loud voice. Now remember that detail, if it's loud, if he's nearing death, there's no way he has any strength to speak loudly. Breathing gets shallower and shallower. Can you whisper as you're trying to force air out of your collapsing lungs? But no, Jesus can speak loudly. He still has power over death. He is not suffocating here. And what does he say? This is the fourth saying. And he says, Eli, Eli, La Ma Savakfani. That is to say, my God, my God. My past thou forsaken me.
