Do Lap Pads Increase the Risk of Infection?
We leave these packs in there for maybe a day or two, and later our orthopods want to come back and perform definitive fixation. If we repacked those patients, then the infection rate went up markedly. It went up to almost 50% of patients would get a pelvic space infection. So again, I think it's a little bit of a tradeoff. Would I wish that it was 0%? Absolutely.
