The Importance of Subscriptions in Publishing

The economics of it are such that you don't need to have an enormous paid audience for it to be very lucrative. It unlocks a different kind of work than if you're playing the BuzzFeed game and you need to just get 5 million people to click on something no matter what. And so we've seen as people, I think of this as like business model is destined a little bit as people feel the pull of that working. The idea of not making money off 94% of your audience is not really a great sustainable strategy for many publishers.
