The Athenians' Financial Decrees in 434 BC
In 434 433 BC a series of financial decrees were proposed and moved by Calias for the Athenians to put their finances in good order. These measures were clearly taken ahead of war hostilities as public finance was shifted towards creating a war fund. The fear of a Spartan invasion of Attica necessitated the withdrawal of treasure from the outlying temples in Attica that laid beyond Athens's long walls. In 432 BC Formio led an expedition intended to aid the anthelokians and acarnanians on the northwestern coast of Greece against the current Peloponnesian League.
